Restoration of 1800’s Colonial Home, Rye, NY by DeMotte Architects
Project type: Addition/Alteration
Completion date: Pre-2005
Architect: Brad DeMotte, R.A.
This is a commercial building on a busy street in Rye, that was previously used as a residential rental property for many years. It was originally a house built in the 1800′s that was move to this site many years ago. Being a rental property, it was in a state of disrepair both inside & out, with vinyl siding & aluminum trim being installed over the clapboard siding which also hid all of the decorative brackets & detailing.
My clients bought the building with the intention of converting it to office space, assuming some remodeling would occur throughout. This quickly turned into a complete gut & remodel, which was the right thing to do. The original siding & trim remained under the vinyl siding, which was repaired & refinished. The front porch was completely rebuilt, while still matching the original design.
The interior was completely redone, and while all finishes are new the building still retains its old world charm & character.
