Pound Ridge, New York Colonial Addition with Deck by DeMotte Architects
The existing house was a Center Hall Colonial built in the ’60’s. While the homeowners had remodeled the kitchen & family room a few years ago, the house was in need of a proper master bedroom suite. The homeowners also desired a screened porch & a deck to enjoy the views of their property from.
A 2 story addition to the right side of the house consisted of a screened porch below with a master bedroom above – with a cathedral ceiling & windows on 3 sides. The existing master bedroom, bathroom, & closets were converted to a sitting room, walk-in closets, & a master bath.
On the exterior, all windows were replaced and new trim was installed around the windows & doors (no trim had existed before). A mahogany deck is surrounded with a stainless steel cable rail system, topped with a matching mahogany handrail. The cable rails (while clearly not traditional) were chosen to bring a hint of modern to the house while allowing for transparency.
